Testing During COVID-19

During the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, PTCB is committed to working diligently to serve pharmacy technicians and support our nation’s pharmacy teams carrying out critically essential work on the front lines. Below are updates on actions we are taking to help.

Introducing Online Proctored Test Delivery

Beginning May 4, PTCB is offering online proctored exam delivery of all PTCB credential exams, including the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam® (PTCE®), the Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician® (CSPT®) Exam, Technician Product Verification Certificate (TPV) Exam, and Medication History Certificate Exam. The online exam delivery option allows US residents to take their exam online from their own computer under the virtual supervision of a live proctor. The online exam system uses exam security features, including face-matching technology and ID verification.

Special Reduced Fees

Individuals: During this difficult time, PTCB is temporarily reducing fees on all PTCB credentials.

Organizations: Participants enrolled in Direct Billing can save between 15% and 40% on fees for the CPhT and the CSPT credential. Direct Billing is a simple way for organizations to pay for your pharmacy technicians to earn or renew PTCB credentials. If your organization has not yet enrolled, submit a Help Center request to enroll. No further action is required for those already enrolled, and the new pricing will be reflected on the Direct Biller’s next invoice.

In-Person Testing Available at Select Test Centers

Pearson Professional Centers (PPCs) have reopened to deliver in-person testing on a limited basis across the US. These testing locations are cleaned and disinfected frequently, follow government guidelines for social distancing, may require face masks, and limit the number of individuals in the test center at one time. Test delivery is suspended or limited at many PPCs. Exams are being delivered at certain independent third-party test centers (PVTC and PVTC Selects) operating in the US. Due to the unpredictability of test center availability, candidates must confirm appointments with test centers in advance.

Authorized Candidates Receive Time Extensions To Schedule Exams

To assist candidates authorized to schedule their appointment to take a PTCB exam during the COVID-19 test center closures, PTCB has automatically extended Authorization to Schedule (ATS) time periods for a minimum of 60 days for certain candidates. The 60-day extension period begins on a candidate’s original ATS expiration date. Candidates receiving extensions will be notified by email. Candidates who have a scheduled appointment to test during the COVID-19 closures have the option to choose online proctored exam delivery or reschedule their in-person exam appointment, depending on test center availability, through their Pearson VUE Account. Pearson VUE continues to deliver exams at some independent third-party test centers still operating in the US. Learn more
