Use of this website and all PTCB divisions, programs, and social media pages commits you to adherence to the PTCB Privacy Policy.


The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board® (“PTCB”), a nonprofit tax-exempt organization, respects your privacy. Please read this Privacy Policy so that you can understand what information is collected, how that information is used, with whom it is shared, and how it is protected against unauthorized access. To make this notice easy to locate, we make it available on our home page and throughout our website.

What information is collected?

We also collect information that you provide to us. PTCB® may collect personal information including, but not limited to, first and last name, mailing or billing addresses, email address, telephone numbers, fax number, credit/debit card and ACH payment information, company name, company title, sponsor information, educational information, training information, through standard business operations such as profile setup, credentialing application and testing, and recertification, as applicable. We may collect or receive the following additional information in the application, testing, and/or renewal process, as necessary or appropriate: e.g., criminal or disciplinary background, testing accommodations, gender, and ethnicity. For candidate verification and identification purposes, we may collect part of a government-issued identification number (such as last four digits of a Social Security Number) and date of birth. We may require submission of documentation as proof of a legal name change such as a marriage certificate. For recertification purposes, we will ask for information regarding continuing education, training, and providers.

When a computer-based test is administered, we may collect and score test responses and then derive a test score and generate a report of test results. Depending upon the test sponsor and/or test security requirements, we may collect signature, photographic image, fingerprint, and/or palm vein image digitally at a test center and will audio and video record test takers. When existing demographic information in our database is incorrect or incomplete, that information will be updated. 

PTCB’s website receives and stores certain types of information whenever you interact with us. We may collect and log your Internet Protocol (IP) address and your browser information to determine how to facilitate services online and on our website. We may collect information on pages visited, frequency of visits, and length of time spent to make improvements that will enhance your experience with us. 

Cookie Policy

PTCB uses "cookies" to securely authenticate you to our services, track usage and to save user configuration to facilitate your user experience. Cookies are small files that your web browser places on your computer's hard drive.  Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can easily adjust your browser settings to prevent cookie data from being stored on your computer; however certain website functions may not operate if you do so. How is this information used, shared and disclosed?

All personal information will be maintained in a confidential and secure manner. In appropriate circumstances, and upon request, PTCB may release this information to state and/or national pharmacy organizations, pharmacy technician education providers, pharmacy continuing education providers, employers of pharmacy technicians, state boards of pharmacy for one or more of the following reasons: quality control, operations management, security, recertification, testing services, and test related products and services.

PTCB may release a candidate’s examination score information to the individual’s sponsoring employer and/or educational institution provider, upon receipt of a valid, signed, written or electronic authorization from the individual, and consistent with policy requirements.

PTCB will release credential-specific information through our verification process. This process is available to any person seeking to verify the status of a PTCB-credentialed technician. Credential-specific information includes first and last name, city, state, credential type, credential status, credential number, application deadline, last renewal date, expiration date and credential issue date.

Name and physical address information may be made available for limited, one-time use by organizations seeking to contact you with information about products, programs, or services relevant to the professional or educational needs of pharmacy technicians. Requests for such use of your contact information are reviewed to ensure that the information that is to be provided is consistent with the professional nature of PTCB and the professional and educational needs of the pharmacy community. 

We may send to you emails with various information related to PTCB and its mission. These may include marketing materials on behalf of third parties with content relevant to or related to PTCB’s mission that fit within our legitimate interests to serve you. We do not share your email address with third parties without obtaining your consent first. Except for transactional emails necessary to perform PTCB’s contractual obligations, you may specify that your contact information not be used for the purposes enumerated in this paragraph by contacting us via the PTCB Help Center or unsubscribing from the emails through the available opt-out functionality in those emails or in your PTCB Account.

For individuals enrolled in our text messaging option, certain personal information will be shared with any program partners, message content providers, phone companies, and other related vendors that assist PTCB in the delivery of text messages. PTCB may send recurring automated informational text messages through a service provider to the mobile telephone number that was designated. However, except as otherwise set forth in this paragraph, PTCB will not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease or otherwise transfer for profit any phone numbers or other information related to its text messaging program to any third party. PTCB reserves the right at all times to disclose any information necessary to satisfy any law, rule, regulation or government request, to avoid liability, or to protect its rights or property. In the event PTCB believes that any information provided by an individual is untrue, inaccurate or incomplete, or an individual has enrolled in its text messaging option for an inappropriate purpose, PTCB may refuse access to the text messaging option and pursue any other appropriate legal remedies.

PTCB may disclose personally identifiable information in special cases if we find it necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be violating PTCB policies or causing injury to or interference with PTCB programs, its users, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities, or when required by an appropriate court or government agency order. PTCB shall not disclose any information obtained during the credentialing process, or from sources other than the applicant, candidate or credentialed person, to an unauthorized party without the written consent of the applicant, candidate or credentialed person, except as permitted by this Privacy Policy or where the law requires such information to be disclosed. When PTCB is required by law to release confidential information, the person concerned shall, unless prohibited by law, be notified as to what information will be provided.

PTCB will not use any personal information outside of the purposes listed above without the express consent of the individual unless required by law or regulation. By registering for a test through PTCB, express consent is given of the use and transmission of this data in performance of the purposes listed above.

How can I access and change my personal information?

PTCB provides users with 24-hour access to their personal information. You can access all of your personally identifiable information and maintain it by logging into the PTCB website. PTCB takes reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access to make corrections.

How we protect the information you provide on the Site

We will undertake commercially reasonable procedures to help ensure that the information you provide to us is protected against loss, misuse, alteration, destruction, or unauthorized access. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place commercially reasonable physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Credit card and other personal information that you provide on the Site is transmitted over the internet using a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connection. SSL is the industry-standard method for protecting confidential web communications, such as credit card numbers, online forms, and financial data from interception and hacking. 

When you submit information to PTCB through the internet, you should be aware that your information is transmitted across the Internet and that no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. Although we take reasonable security measures to protect your information when we receive it, you also need to ensure you take appropriate steps to protect your information. 

International website access and cross-border data transfers
PTCB’s principal place of business is in the United States. Our website is generally accessible worldwide, but we do not target with our website any specific geographic region. If you are visiting the website from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where our servers are located and PTCB is based.

Children’s Information
The website is not intended for users under 13 years of age. PTCB does not knowingly collect personal information from users under 13 years of age. If PTCB discovers that a user under the age of 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete the user’s personal data unless a parent or guardian provides verifiable consent to PTCB.

Privacy issues and links to other sites
The website may contain links to other third party websites that are not affiliated with PTCB. PTCB has no control over and is not responsible for the privacy policies or content of such sites.

Social Media Widgets
The website includes social media features, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter buttons, that run on our website. These features may collect your IP address and which page you are visiting on our website, and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly. Social media features and widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on our Site. Your interactions with these features are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing it.

Acceptance of this Privacy Policy

The use of PTCB’s services constitute a user's acknowledgment that he or she has read, understood, and accepted this Privacy Policy, and agrees to its terms.

PTCB reserves the right to modify or supplement this Privacy Policy statement at any time. If we make a material change, we will post a notice on our home page with a link to the updated Privacy Policy. Please read any such notice and the new Privacy Policy. Your continued use of PTCB services after we post such notice will constitute your acceptance of the new terms and their application to the information disclosed for such use, including information previously furnished to us, as if they were the original terms.
