Inaugural Pharmacy Technician Educators Council Leadership Committee Ushers in New Era

PTCB Deepens Commitment to Educating Technicians for Professional Development

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Board of Governors for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) announced appointments to its inaugural Pharmacy Technician Educators Council (PTEC) Leadership Committee. Composed of PTEC members, the committee will advise and direct the nonprofit’s pharmacy technician education efforts to better advance the pharmacy profession. 

Members of the inaugural PTEC Leadership Committee are:

  • Clay Sprouse, MEd, MPs, CPhT - Chair - Since 2011, Clay has been the Program Coordinator and Chief Instructor for the Pharmacy Technology Program at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, SC. He has a master’s degree in education from the University of New Hampshire-Manchester, a master’s degree in political science from American Public University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of South Carolina. 
     
  • Sacha Tadros, PharmD - Chair Elect - Sacha Tadros is the Pharmacy Technician Program Director at Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio. She is a graduate of the Chicago College of Pharmacy and began her career in pharmacy technician education more than 15 years ago. Sacha has worked closely with the Ohio Department of Education to improve pharmacy technician articulation agreements for career and technical students. She also works as a pharmacy consultant, oversees the pharmacy technician college credit plus program at her institution, and has published several pharmacy technician textbooks including a certification review book. Sacha has been a member of the Pharmacy Technician Educators Council since 2018 and has served in her current role since 2022. 
     
  • Sara Byars, CPhT - Member-at-Large - Sara Byars is the Program Director for the Pharmacy Technician program at San Jacinto Community College’s South campus in Pasadena, Texas. She has a degree in analytical chemistry and graduated with honors from Sam Houston State University. Sara has been a Certified Pharmacy Technician since 2007. She specializes in nonsterile compounding and long-term care but has come to enjoy her role in the education of future pharmacy technicians the most. Sara is passionate about teaching math, and pharmacology and encouraging her students’ growth in both emotional intelligence and critical thinking. 
     
  • Patty Melissen, RPh - Member-at-Large - Patty Melissen has been the Residency Director for the Acme Sav-On/Temple University residency site based out of Philadelphia for more than 10 years. Along with her responsibilities as Residency Director, she is the Pharmacy Learning Partner for Albertsons Companies Incorporated, providing consultative and strategic solutions to their pharmacy business. She has worked for Albertsons for nearly 30 years and has held several different positions within the company including Corporate Pharmacy Trainer, Pharmacy Manager, Immunization Trainer, and Clinical Division Leader. Patty has strong interests in both teaching and clinical program development and serves as a field reviewer for the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education and a guest surveyor for residency accreditation. She is board certified in ambulatory care pharmacy and is credentialed by AAHIV. She graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston.
     
  • Stephanie O’Bryan, CPT - Member-at-Large - Stephanie O'Bryan has been a pharmacy technician since 2012. She is the Program Director of the Pharmacy Technician Program at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon. She has been involved with PTEC since 2015, and the Treasurer of the organization since 2020. 
     
  • Katrina Robb, CPhT, MBA - Member-at-Large - Katrina Robb is the Program Director at Central Louisiana Technical Community College in Ferriday, Louisiana. She has more than 20 years of experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician and 14 years in education. She also works part-time as an IV technician at a local hospital for the last seven years. She previously served as Secretary for PTEC from 2019 to 2022.  
     
  • Lucia Watson, MS, CPhT - Member-at-Large - Lucia Watson holds an associate degree in dental hygiene from Onondaga Community College, a bachelor’s degree in vocational education/health occupations from SUNY Oswego, a master’s degree in health education from SUNY Cortland, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership from Syracuse University. She holds national board certification in health education and is a PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician. She holds dual teaching and administrator certifications, plus dental hygiene licenses in South Carolina and New York State. Mrs. Watson is a pre-medicine instructor at the Academy for the Arts, Science, and Technology, teaching Pharmacology for Medical Careers, Health Science Technology 1, and Health Science Technology 2. She has been in education for 17 years with experiences that also include teaching health, child development, AVID, and pre-LPN adult education courses, and has served as an assistant principal at both the high school and middle school levels.
     
  • Zachary Green, CPhT - Secretary - A PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) since 2008, Zachary serves as the Associate Director of Partnership Development at PTCB. In this role, he manages accounts for PTCB’s pharmacy technician educator and employer programs and assists with various activities surrounding PTCB’s stakeholder relationships. Prior to joining PTCB in 2013, Zachary worked in the field as a pharmacy technician at Mount Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in public affairs, with research distinction and a minor in public health at Ohio State University.

PTCB integrated PTEC as a division in December 2022 in order to combine resources, expertise, and infrastructure that will empower technician educators and strengthen the future of the pharmacy technician workforce. Together, PTCB and PTEC assist the pharmacy profession in educating and training pharmacy technicians to adhere to best professional practices and promote the pharmacy technician occupation through professional activities.
