Free CE: Storage and Handling of Temperature-Sensitive Medications

The goal of this CE activity is to help pharmacists and pharmacy technicians understand the importance of safe handling and proper storage for temperature-sensitive medications, enabling them to assist with developing appropriate policies and procedures for these medications.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Describe current practices for safe medication handling of specialty medications (e.g., biologics) to ensure stability and maintain potency;
  2. Review current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for vaccine storage and handling and apply recommendations to the pharmacist's practice setting;
  3. Review institutional/workplace policies in the current pharmacy practice setting and make recommendations for areas needing updating and/or revision;
  4. Discuss current backup procedures in place for power outages and other emergencies;
  5. Analyze emergency policies that may need to be updated or revised; and
  6. Expand knowledge and skills for patient education about safe handling and storage of temperature-sensitive medications.
Earn 2 CE hours. This free CE will expire on May 31, 2016.
