PTCB Launches Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician™ (CSPT™) Program
PTCB launched the Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician™ (CSPT™) Program on December 6, 2017 as a key step in fulfilling our mission to advance medication safety. PTCB-Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs) have the opportunity to demonstrate their specialized knowledge by meeting the high standards of PTCB’s CSPT Program. PTCB Will No Longer Accept ‘In-Service’ Hours for CE Credit Starting January 2018
Beginning January 1, 2018, PTCB will no longer accept what is known as ‘in-service’ continuing education (CE) hours toward fulfillment of PTCB’s CE requirements for recertification or reinstatement. In-service CE refers to certain projects or training earned at a CPhT's workplace under a pharmacist's supervision. The ‘in-service’ CE category will no longer appear as an option beginning in January. Read more.

William Schimmel is Named New Executive Director and CEO of PTCB
The PTCB Board of Governors is pleased to announce that William Schimmel will become PTCB’s new Executive Director and CEO on December 14, succeeding Everett B. McAllister, MPA, RPh, Colonel, USAF (Ret.), who announced his departure in August for a new career. Mr. Schimmel has been PTCB Associate Executive Director (AED) for the past 7 years. Read more.

Success of New Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician™ (CSPT™) Beta Exam
PTCB successfully completed the PTCB Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician™ (CSPT™) Program beta exam. The beta exam is a critical step in developing an exam for CSPT™ candidates that is psychometrically sound and meets industry standards for validity. The CSPT™ Exam Development Committee was responsible for developing two 90-question forms for the beta exam. Read more.

PTCB's National Certification Program Receives NCCA Accreditation Renewal
The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) has granted re-accreditation to the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Program through November 30, 2021. To qualify for renewal of accreditation, the PTCB Program underwent NCCA’s recently updated extensive review process to demonstrate compliance with NCCA Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs. PTCB Honors 2017 PTCB CPhT of the Year SSgt. Johnson, USAF
PTCB honored 2017 PTCB CPhT of the Year SSgt. Mary Johnson, USAF, CPhT, on December 5 at a special reception during the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting in Orlando, FL. PTCB recognized SSgt. Johnson for launching a major policy initiative to implement new standardized opioid prescription guidelines in Air Force pharmacies in Europe. Read more.
