Successful Strategies for Improving Immunization Rates across the Health System.
Health systems are challenged with implementation of effective vaccination programs. Core measures from both Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and The Joint Commission now evaluate hospitals on their pneumococcal and influenza immunization offers and rates. Evidence also shows that effective vaccination programs can reduce readmissions, thereby improving certain reimbursements to health systems from both public and private payers. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) now recommends immunizing adults to help mitigate outbreaks of pertussis. Thus, health systems must find efficient and effective ways to integrate immunization programs into their policies, procedures, and workflow.
