Free CE: New Drug Approvals - What the Technician Needs to Know

by Laura Humphrey | Mar 04, 2014

The Food and Drug Administration has approved more than 500 drugs in the past decade. In 2012, the FDA approved 39 drugs. It was an important year for weight-loss drugs, as well as biological and gene therapy.

This CE will discuss drug approvals for community pharmacies in 2012. Use, similar medications, approved dosages, important drug interactions, and adverse effects will be summarized for each drug.

Upon completion of this CE, you should be able to:
  • Review the FDA process for approving new drugs.
  • List the therapeutic agents approved for use in 2012.
  • Discuss the approved agents’ indications for use.
  • Discuss medications similar to the agents approved in 2012.
  • Explain the role of the pharmacy technician when a new drug becomes available.

This free CE is available until February 1, 2016.
