PTCB’s Certification Council directs the development of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) as well as the related policies and procedures of the overarching certification program. The council is comprised of expert pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians (CPhTs) drawn from various practice settings and geographic areas.
The PTCE is designed to determine whether individuals have mastered the knowledge necessary to practice as entry level pharmacy technicians. The council reviews test questions under the direction of psychometric experts. All questions and exams are reviewed and approved by the council to ensure they are current and reflect the content outline.
The Certification Council Appeals Committee is involved in PTCB’s appeals review and resolution process
. An appeal to the Appeals Committee explains the reason(s) that an initial executive staff decision is believed incorrect, and should be reversed or resolved. The Appeals Committee Decision will include the findings of the committee and a summary of the relevant factual findings based on the record.
