Official Description

The PTCB CPhT of the Year© was established in 2013 to recognize distinguished service and honor the accomplishments of a pharmacy technician throughout or in any period of time during his or her career.


The nominee for the award must be an active PTCB CPhT who has been PTCB-certified for at least 2 years. Self-nominations are not accepted. A supervisor, colleague, or any other person may nominate a  PTCB CPhT. The name and contact information for a reference must be provided with the nomination. The reference must be either a current or former supervisor, or a current or former instructor, trainer, or professor. The person submitting the nomination may also serve as the reference if the requirements for being a reference are met. Individuals submitting nominations and those being nominated should be familiar with PTCB's official rules and eligibility requirements.

Nomination Process

The nominator is responsible for completing an award nomination submission online through the online process at The deadline for submitting nominations is August 12, 2016.

A nomination must include:

• Responses to all items in the online questionnaire       
• A reference, including the full name and contact information, as specified within the nomination submission form.

Selection Process

1) Upon receipt of the nominations, PTCB staff will review them for completeness and conformity with criteria. Incomplete nominations will be discarded. If acceptable, PTCB staff will forward the nominations to the Finalist Selection Committee. 
2) The Finalist Selection Committee will evaluate the nomination materials and select a small list of finalists for online voting. Selected finalists will undergo a conduct and background review in accordance with PTCB policy. The committee will request photo headshots from the selected finalists, and may request additional information.
3) PTCB will post an online ballot containing the names, photos, and a summary of the finalists’ submissions at, linking from social media. The ballot will feature brief narrative descriptions.
3) After voting is closed, the committee will prepare a list of the nominees who received the most votes. These individuals will be top contenders for the PTCB CPhT of the Year.
4) The nominees who receive the most votes will be the final candidates to be evaluated by the PTCB Executive Director & CEO and by an advisory group. Additional information, such as resumes or CVs, may be requested from the finalists. The Executive Director & CEO will choose the single PTCB CPhT of the Year.

Nature of Award

In October, PTCB Executive Director and CEO Everett McAllister, MPA, RPh, will announce the CPhT of the Year. The 2017 honoree will receive:

  • a $500 honorarium
  • travel and accommodations, if applicable, to attend an event to recognize the PTCB CPhT of the Year

To make it possible for the individual chosen to participate, PTCB provides coach roundtrip airfare as needed based upon current PTCB travel policies; and hotel, meal and miscellaneous expenses based upon current PTCB travel policies.


Certification status of finalists will be verified by PTCB. PTCB reserves the right to perform a full background check on finalists or any nominee. PTCB will review conduct and history of each proposed finalist before selection of finalists is completed.

By allowing oneself to be nominated, a PTCB CPhT is agreeing to allow his or her information to be considered as potential PTCB marketing or editorial content. Submission of a nomination does not guarantee the nominee will be considered for inclusion in PTCB marketing or editorial material.

Fraudulent or fabricated content is not acceptable and disqualifies the nomination.
An individual may nominate a nominee only once. If a nominee is nominated by more than one person, all submitted nominations pertaining to that nominee will be reviewed by the PTCB review committee.

Official Rules

Eligibility and Restrictions

The PTCB CPhT of the Year© is void where prohibited, taxed, or otherwise restricted by law. The PTCB CPhT of the Year is subject to all federal, state and local laws. The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) reserves the right to disqualify nominations that contain “incorrect or inappropriate” content as described in its policies.

Nominations are open for individuals to nominate active (current) PTCB CPhTs who have been certified by PTCB for at least 2 years and are legal residents of the United States; and US Military personnel with APO/FPO addresses. Participation in the PTCB CPhT of the Year election constitutes the nominator’s and nominee’s full and unconditional acceptance of these Official Rules.

This PTCB CPhT of the Year is NOT open to: nominees who have been PTCB-certified for less than 2 years; any reinstatement candidates; former CPhTs who are ineligible for reinstatement; suspended CPhTs; former CPhTs whose certification has been revoked by a State Board of Pharmacy or PTCB; and CPhTs whose status is currently in 'pending' status. PTCB reserves the right to perform background checks on finalist candidates.

Rules of Entry

If for any reason PTCB’s online processing systems are not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the PTCB CPhT of the Year, PTCB reserves the right at its sole discretion, to terminate, modify or suspend the PTCB CPhT of the Year. All nominations must be received before or by the specified nomination period closing date.

PTCB is NOT responsible for any of the following:  any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries; any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email or entry to be received by PTCB on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at the PTCB website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to any person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials or problems in this PTCB CPhT of the Year election or for printing errors in these Official Rules.

Awards and Selection of Winners

Awards are/will be specified in PTCB social media, electronic reminders, announcements, and electronic newsletters. All warranties for awards are hereby disclaimed, and the winner will accept the award “as is.” Noncash awards (travel, hotel, meals, etc.) cannot be assigned, transferred, exchanged, or redeemed for cash. Winners will be responsible for any taxes associated with their individual award(s).

During the nomination period, nominations received online by PTCB will be combined to create the pool of nominees from which the Finalist Review Committee, determined by PTCB, will select finalists to be featured in an online ballot for online voting. PTCB’s decisions regarding all aspects of the PTCB CPhT of the Year election shall be final and binding. The individual chosen as the PTCB CPhT of the Year will be according to PTCB’s decision-making process.The odds of being selected to win will be determined by the number of valid entries.

The winner will be selected from nominees with the highest numbers of votes by the PTCB Executive Director/CEO, whose decisions regarding all aspects of the CPhT of the Year shall be final and binding. Awards will be announced within eight weeks after selections are made. If a selected nominee declines to accept the award, or in the event the notification is returned as undeliverable, the winner will be disqualified and PTCB may elect, at its own discretion, to select an alternate winner. By participating, nominators and nominees release PTCB, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliated businesses, its advertising and promotion agencies, and the officers, directors, employees and agents of each from any and all liability, damages or causes of action (however named or described) for injuries, damages or losses to persons and property, which may be sustained in connection with receipt, enjoyment, ownership of the award; and winners grant permission to PTCB to use winners’ names, ages, cities, states, photographs or likenesses for advertising, promotional, editorial, marketing, or educational purposes without additional compensation or approval (where lawful).


All participants agree that: (1) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or in connection with the PTCB CPhT of the Year, or awards associated with it, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and any judicial proceeding shall take place in a federal or state court within the District of Columbia; (2) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the PTCB CPhT of the Year, but in no event attorneys' fees; and (3) under NO circumstances will nominator or nominee be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, and consequential damages, and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of entrant and PTCB in connection with the PTCB CPhT of the Year, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions (whether of/in the District of Columbia or any other jurisdiction), that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the District of Columbia.


The PTCB CPhT of the Year is sponsored by PTCB. PTCB reserves the right to cancel the PTCB CPhT of the Year at any time and/or substitute another promotion in its place; and PTCB reserves the right to revise the schedule for the PTCB CPhT of the Year at any time and substitute another schedule in its place. Failure by PTCB to enforce any provision of these official rules does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
